Siemens Scalance M Routers Provide Remote Access

Melissa Larson | November 14, 2014

Siemens introduces three Scalance M series of rugged industrial routers that are designed to reliably operate in areas normally restricted from wireless communication, including water treatment plants and medical applications.

The Scalance M812-1 and Scalance M816-1 routers give users remote access to automation networks and components from anywhere in the world over public digital subscriber lines (DSL).  The routers provide reliable, low-cost connection of Ethernet-based subnets and programmable controllers to wired DSL networks that support the ASDL2+ (Asynchronous Digital Subscriber Line) protocol. It provides fast transmission rates of up to 25 Mbit/s from network to end device (downlink) and 3.5 Mbit/s from device to network (uplink).

The Scalance M826-2 router communicates over private (leased) lines. The SHDSL router (single-pair high-speed digital subscriber line) is connected to the Ethernet by private two-wire or stranded cables. It ensures fast transmission rates of up to15.3 Mbit/s with two-wire cables that can be increased with four or more wires.

All three routers have integrated firewalls and VPN functionality for high levels of security. They are also part of Siemens Security Integrated concept.
