Twiflex Introduces New Caliper Brake Designed for Topdrive Applications
Melissa Larson | April 10, 2015
The new T30 hydraulic pressure applied, modular caliper brake from Twiflex was developed to meet the high performance and limited space requirements of oil and gas drill topdrive applications.
The new brakes provide greater braking force and withstand greater operating pressures in a compact assembly.
The T30 features a split housing for side or center mounting flexibility and accommodation of a variety of disc thicknesses. Units have a 120 bar (1740 psi) operating pressure which produces 25.4 kN (5710 lb.ft.) of braking force. With an operating range between -20 deg. C to +70 deg. C (-4 deg. F to 158 deg. F), the T30 is designed to perform in challenging drilling environments.
Building on its success in other industry-proven Twiflex caliper brake models, the T30 offers a self-adjusting mechanism that maintains a constant air-gap for the life of the friction linings, thus ensuring consistent response times. Units require a minimum disc diameter of 245 mm (9.6 in.) and are set for a standard disc thickness of 25.4 mm (1.0 in.). The T30’s compact, robust housing is available with custom levels of finish and protection. The brakes are designed to provide interchangeability of wear components with other brakes in the topdrive market.
