New Condition Monitoring Service from Tetra Pak

The heavy hitter in the processing and packaging world, Denton,Tex.-based Tetra Pak, is expanding its services offering with upgrades, personnel evaluation, customized training, remote condition monitoring and support, and consulting. It’s a big announcement and the remote monitoring service is a new wrinkle for the venerable Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM).

The new condition monitoring service provides real-time analytics, powered by Microsoft Azure Cloud. The company ran a pilot of the new service for six months, starting in January 2016, where it “supported 17 lines across 10 customers in Europe and the Americas with the new service.” According to Tetra Pak, “during this period, downtime was eliminated by up to 48 hours for each line, saving up to 30,000 Euros for the customer.”

Maintenance Technology reached out Tetra Pak and said that “the key enabler with the remote service is the Cloud Analytics and the fact that Tetra Pak has the domain knowledge of the equipment and data from many lines.”

Like with many manufacturing facilities, legacy equipment isn’t going away. “Tetra Pak is able to retrofit a range of machines that have been released in the last 10-12 years. For older machines we can potentially do it, but the pre-requisites for the older equipment are less favorable and the strategic priority lies on the newer equipment,” according to Tetra Pak.
