Mobius 2017 International Machinery Vibration Analysis Conference Delivers

Despite its B Resort & Spa venue in Orlando, the 2017 International Machinery Vibration Analysis Conference (IMVAC) was no place for rest and relaxation.
Presented by Mobius Institute (Bainbridge Island, WA and Melbourne, Australia) this Oct. 6-9 event could be best described as “throttle-up” in nature from start to finish.
The virtually non-stop 4-day agenda featured, among other things, a wide range of keynotes and interactive forums, workshops (pre- and post-conference), technical/case-study-type sessions (45 of them), technology solutions, and certification opportunities. With a no-stone-unturned focus on vibration analysis and related condition-monitoring/PdM techniques and approaches aimed at improving equipment and process reliability, Team Mobius/IMVAC delivered plenty for the nearly 300 attendees gathered in Florida this week.
Highlights included standing-room-only Keynote presentations by John Schultz, of Allied Reliability Group/T.F.Hudgins (on skills needed by reliability & maintenance pros in a world of IIoT, machine learning, artificial intelligence, and augmented reality); legendary (Retired) U.S. Air Force Major Brian Shul (on his experiences before and after piloting a Cold-War spy plane); Jeff Shiver, of People & Processes (on five components in achieving condition-based maintenance.); and Mobius Institute’s Jason Tranter (on making vibration analysis count). Thirty exhibitors, including Ludeca, Fluke, VibrAlign, IMI Sensors, Prufetechnik, Augury, Wilcoxon, Semeq, and SPM showcased an array of products and services during the regular conference.
Interestingly, in wrapping things up, Day 4 of IMVAC 2017 seemed to be just as intense as the first three days of the regular conference. Optional morning activities (4+ hours each) included a heavily attended, post-conference workshop on Maintenance & Reliability Best Practices led by Jeff Shiver; a review course for Mobius Institute Certification; and a tour of the Cane Island Power Plant. Two certification exams took up the afternoon for individuals seeking accreditation as an ISO Vibration Analyst (by Mobius), or as a CMRP/CMRT (by the Society for Maintenance & Reliability Professionals, SMRP).
